It was great to be back after the break and start with a win.
Gregs made a lively start with a goal after 5 minutes- a smart finish by Abdi in a crowded box after a cross from the right from Sam Boylan. The game ebbed and flowed after that for a period as the home team looked to get a foothold in the game, and they looked dangerous on the wings. Gregs missed a glorious chance to go 2 up when a clever cross from Abdi found Ishy unmarked in front of goal. Ishy headed wide, surprised to get so much space in that area of the pitch. A couple of times after that the home team managed to provide dangerous crosses but couldn’t find a target player, and these crosses were more often than not cut out by the excellent centre half partnership of Bob and Rauiri. A couple of shots from Heyside were dealt with well by Jake. Gregs had more chances and threatened through Sam B down the right on several occasions, being found by quality diagonal attacking balls from Abdi. The second half was a similar story, with Gregs attacking dangerously and just let down by the quality of the final ball and being slow to release on a couple of occasions. The home side had a decent spell of pressure as they turned up the heat for an equaliser, with a succession of corners that were manfully dealt with by the resilient defence, with Jake looking dominant in goal eager for the team’s first clean sheet of the season. Abdul came on for Sam, shortly followed by Lloyd for Liam, to introduce some fresh legs on the right side after the shift that had already been put in. This revitalised Gregs and we started to get on the ball and play our passing game again. As the clock ticked down Joe Dominey came on for Ishy to sit in with Danny H and protect the defence.
Almost immediately, Josh held the ball up just inside the opponent’s half with his back to goal and managed to turn and slip Abdul in behind and beat the offside trap. Abdul raced through and coolly slotted under the keeper to wrap up the game.
2-0 to Greg’s final score.
A great performance to return with, that starts off the momentum for the Christmas fixtures. Well done to the entire squad for the work rate and concentration. We go again Wednesday!
